Nice guys finish last, it’s true. But kind men, they never finish at all. They go on forever.
So what’s the difference? Because there is a whole cavern’s chasm’s worth of difference between a kind man and a nice guy. Both of them won’t mess with you. Both of them don’t want any trouble. But here’s the difference: a nice guy doesn’t want any trouble because he’s afraid to deal with the consequences. When he smiles, it makes your stomach turn. And you want him gone like a bad case of the stomach flu.
A kind man, however. A kind man doesn’t want any trouble because he doesn’t want you to deal with the consequences. Because you can’t handle the consequences. So he spares you. He spares you because he knows what he could do to you and, well, you’re just not worth it at the time. And when a kind man smiles, you smile too. You smile all day long.
JESUS could’ve taken himself down from that cross at any moment. But he didn’t. He didn’t even bother. Neither did HUSAYN. There was an almost gentle humor in his exodus. He went quietly and left them there to suffer the consequences. When will they ever be finished with the consequences?
